Xanga Plugz
Xanga Plugz are little ads for blogs, created by the users to publicize their sites on Xanga. Plugz also help readers discover quality content by exposing them to bloggers that they would not otherwise be exposed to.
A Plug consists of a headline, an image, and description and it links to a specific URL, which can be any publicly accessible page on Xanga.
I was given the concept and asked to oversee the full life cycle of the product. I spent a significant amount of time on determining the technical and interface needs. Then I did paper prototyping and digital prototyping to capture more of the visual design. The next step was to build the actual user interfaces to create, schedule, display and see statistics about Plugz in XHTML, CSS, and JavaScript. I conducted a user study to find out the users' willingness to pay before deployment. Finally, I designed two tools for the administrators, one to approve or deny Plugz and another one to see the reports on the performance of the Plugz.
